It all depends on the exposure you will get against the cost, I agree there are many free promotion website out their, mine being one of them, but even I offer an option of paying a nominal fee for maximum exposure, mine is £10 for the entire year not monthly for reference.

So I don't disagree with the idea plus the OP does offer a free recipricol link option, I suppose it is down to the indiviaul if they want to use it or not.
