Spam posters

Hi all I just wanted to post a quick thread encouraging members to report any spam threads they may come across as this way I think we can keep the forum clean for everyone to enjoy...after all I don't know anyone who likes spam (or even corned beef tbh) Big Grin

If we all report them it will make Selboys job easier in removing them.

Welldone if you do already keep up the good work. Wink

RE: Spam posters
Thanks for all your help on reporting spam...I have deleted many posts and banned lots of members who post spam and will continue to do so, the forum is not just a place where you place a free ad, you can also get help and advice from other members, but you must join in and contribute to the topics of conversation. By doing this your website will get a lot more vistors and exposure than whose who just post spam... thanks again madbug and all other members who report spam.

RE: Spam posters
From Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spam_%28electronic%29

But to make it plain and simple (for a foum example) usually it is something like a block apragraph or sentence usuially containing words about a product with a few keyword links embedded in the text.

They are usually easy to spot as sometimes you can tell they are keyword plugging for example:

We offer all sorts of website promotion. many people have visited our wesbite and used or services which always provide great website promotion to you and will give you additional page rankings.
When visiting us we would also advertise and promote your site at no extra cost.

That is obvious a very quick example using a few keyword links which when looked at by search engines makes them think it is viable content and then makes the anchor text links have value (as they are links to a given site which uses those keywords)

Things like that add value (although it is getting less and less these days)

Typically when surfing around forums you will notice obvious signs of spamming and allot of the times they will also do it a multiple of times like spam bombing (although I can never understand how it can be useful as a one off post may be left untouched thus being more valuable over time)

On forums the spammers these days are required to sign up with user names, these too are often a dead giveaway as they really usually make no sense or logical user name i.e. john10201a or abc1029138495.

Sometimes spammers are I suppose a little clever or maybe not actually hardcore spammer but people trying to gain additional exposure for their website but by not playing a fair game (like participating in threads etc to provide benefit to other users) they just come on post a thread about 'their' website and what it is doing/offering etc and then go away until it is time for them to do it again.
These people are also easy to spot by posting patterns.

In my experience allot of years of IRC, forums and internet use I find it relatively easy to spot a spammer and sometimes even gut feeling works.

anyway hope this helps :-)
