Free Websites

[Engine Management]

I know there are loads of free websites out there and a simple google search brings them up , but could anybody recommend one as I want to get a simple website to advertise my engine refurb business

Yes like you say there are plenty of free websites out there, and to be honest it really depends on what you want, ie: shopping cart etc.

Be careful when using these free websites they may not be as free as they say.
They get you paying after you exceed bandwidth.
Also make sure you can transfer your domain name ( Change DNS ) out when you want to with out charge.

When you find your website host and creation you will need to start promoting it too as having a website is only part of the story, without visitors it's like a book thats never read

http://www.one.com offer free hosting for the first year (but they do charge a £9 set-up fee). They provide up to 5GB for the basic package, and it's only £0.90 a month from year two for that one. They also don't require that you have an advertisement displayed on your site, and I can vouch for their reliability and customer support.

Having just left them after 3 years I would say for a start up they are ok as the first year is cheap but come year 2 it will cost you around £20.

They have imo a high ratio of shared servers which does make your website quite a bit slower, however their customer support is very good but it is sometimes hard to get clear answers on technical issues.

Recently they have also been suffering from DDoS attacks which most users wouldn't notice but when I questioned them about the problems they admitted it to me. they are also based in Denmark.

I would also be mindful that if you are going to start playing with things like SQL then they only alow one database to be setup which would mean you have to be clever on how you create your tables. I had about 5 different sql based systems all running from one main databse and it was a pain in the arse I much prefer the way it is now I have changed host as each of my systems have their own database which makes it easier to manage.
