I've been selling on ebay for 6 years now and no other auction site compares. I have tried several others but ebay is by far the best.

I have to agree, even with all the high seller fees & paypal fees, there is no better online auction site..

I have looked into selling on ebay before, and due to the costs of both running an ebay shop and transaction costs in comparison to the low profit margins I make it has been not been possible. Even so, I really would like to get it going, if only to help drive traffic to my own shop.
Comments people?

Give it a go, push your margins up if necessary. You could be missing out from one of the biggest market places on the net - also if you sell higher quantities you might be able to negotiate better prices from your suppliers, thereby increasing your profit!

RE: ebay is still the best place to sell
I don't know you know, my margins are really low and increasing those margins would end up making me uncompetitive.
Do people think it's worth starting with a store? Or just selling like I was an individual until I got a few sales through?
Also, what about feedback levels, surely starting all new would mean no feedback rating already in existence so people wouldn't want to buy from you?
Any thoughts, ideas or advise on selling on ebay would be great.

If you are working on low margins you will need to be selling in quantity and the best place to sell to sell in large quantities is on ebay, one of the largest market places on the net. If you have attractive products at competitive prices, and provide a good service, it won't be long before you build up your feedback level. You could check out the ebay forums http://pages.ebay.co.uk/community/chat/index.html for more ideas. Hope this helps.

RE: ebay is still the best place to sell
Ebay sucks big time Sad

Its a great place to get rid of unwanted household items but trying to sell as a business is a nightmare!

I have sold on there under various businesses and been ripped off every step of the way. Also I have to vote them number 1 for the WORST customer services of any company I have ever dealt with.

My advice is set up your own site for £500 to £1000 and spend some time teaching yourself SEO and be patient! It can take upto a year to reap the reward but once your site is performing you get to keep ALL your earnings and you dont have to give a penny more to those money grabbing b*sterds!!

Rant over!

I still have not found a better way to sell online, yes ebay has its faults but there is no other alternative what can touch them, thats why they get away with it.
